PORT ANGELES — A total of 60 teams ran through the wet, the dark and thick woods all the way from the Sol Duc Valley to Blyn this weekend in the second annual Frosty Moss Relay.
Teams used anywhere between two to five members to run 80 miles from the Olympic Discovery Trail Camp Creek Trailhead along the Sol Duc River, then along the Spruce Railroad Trail on the north shore of Crescent Lake, then up through the rugged hills south of Joyce, then through the streets of Port Angeles, along the Port Angeles waterfront, through the Dungeness Valley and the streets of Sequim, finally finishing at Blyn.
Winning the event was Atlas Athletes of Olympia, which finished the 80-mile course in 9 hours, 29 minutes and 15.5 seconds. Dad Bods Remix of Port Angeles was second at 10:22:48.7 and Subalpine Tees Racing Team of Seattle was third at 10:40:56.
The best three-person team was Gryffindor Trail Jazz of Kirkland, which finished fourth at 10:53:40.9, and the best four-person team was Where’s the Uber, which finished sixth at 11:13:16.2.

There also was a Mini-Moss 30-mile race this year, which started at Ediz Hook and finished in Sequim.
Winning the Mini-Moss was a two-person team, Tez, of Seattle, which finished in 3:54:49.3. Sharktopus of Seattle finished second at 3:55:23.5 and Team Alayah of Seattle was third at 3:57:15.6.
Forty teams ran the full Frosty Moss and 20 ran the Mini-Moss, with 59 out of the 60 teams finishing the endurance race.
Last year’s Frosty Moss was beset by weather problems as heavy snowfall hit the Olympic Peninsula all month long in February. This year’s event had rain, sun, hail and a little bit of snow but was able to go on as planned.
The best exchange zone was handed to the Exchange 4 Woodland Fairies led by Audrey Bryant of Sequim. The best-dressed team vehicle was Team Slugsicles of Redmond.
Teams came from as far away as Weed, Calif. (Road Sisters) and Whitehorse, Yukon (Lichen’ It).
