DICK BROWN MEMORIAL FIRECRACKER: Wilder dominates junior tournament with two more wins

SEQUIM — Wilder Junior capped off a wildly successful Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Junior Tournament with a combined no-hitter in beating WBS White Colts 9-1 on Sunday.

Wilder Junior went 5-0 in the tournament with most of their wins lopsided. They have now won 10 straight.

The juniors started off Friday beating the WBS Colts Gray team 11-4, then in an evening game, beat Whatcom Post No. 7 8-0 behind a Bryce Deleon complete-game one-hitter.

In Sunday’s win, Ethan Swenson started, going 3⅓ innings. He struck out six and allowed no hits but did give up an earned run. Duran Ward pitched the final 1⅔, going hitless and striking out two.

At the plate, the juniors only had five hits, but were able to tally nine runs thanks to five walks, two hit batsmen and three errors. Zach DeBray had a hit, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Carston Seible and Logan Doyle each had a hit and two runs scored. Carson Waddel had a hit and an RBI.

The juniors improved their record to 15-4. Wilder Junior next plays a doubleheader Wednesday against the Centralia Baseball Club in Centralia in a pair of league games.

Friday’s Games

In the win over the Colts, Wilder Junior had just six hits, but took advantage of six Colts’ errors. Owen Leitz had a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while DeBray had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs. Easton Fisher had a hit, a run scored and RBI, whileDoyle had a hit and an RBI.

On the mound, four pitchers allowed just four hits. Abe Brenkman went three innings, allowed two hits and three earned runs. He struck out two. Leitz pitched two hitless innings and struck out three. East Fisher struck out two in a hitless inning.

In the second game, Deleon went the full six innings and struck out six. He walked none.

The juniors blew up for seven runs in the third inning for all of the runs they would need.

DeBray was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Carson Waddell was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Brenkman hit a double and scored a run, while Fisher had a hit, a run scored, a run driven in and three walks. Carston Seibel had a hit and an RBI.

Wilder A

Wilder A lost 5-2 to the WBS White Colts team Sunday at the Dick Brown junior tournament, though pitchers Lalo Dominguez and Parker Pavlak allowed just five hits and struck out nine.

Dominguez went 4⅔ innings, allowing three hits and four earned runs. He struck out six. Pavlak went 2⅓ innings, allowing one hit and an earned run while striking out three. The duo was hurt by six walks.

At the plate, Easton Prchal had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Wyatt Bruch had a hit and an RBI.

Wilder A lost to Lakeside 7-4 on Friday but came back to beat the WBS Grey team 19-6 on Saturday. Wilder A won two out of its five games at the tournament, also beating the WBS Colts Grey 13-8 on Wednesday.

In Friday’s loss, Dominguez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Asher Irvine was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In Saturday’s victory, Wilder A had just eight hits, but took advantage of six Colts’ errors, getting off to a 10-0 start after one inning. Wilder A made just one error all game. Eden Peterson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, while Pavlak had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs, and Irvine had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs. Van Johnson had ahit, two runs scored and four RBIs.

On the mound, Easton Schlichting went three innings and allowed two hits and five earned runs. He struck out three. Morgan Evans went two innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. He struck out three.

Wilder A is 3-9 on the season.
