COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula men salvage tie, Pirates women can’t complete comeback

A tough day at NWAC Friendlies

EUGENE, Ore. — After both teams opened with 3-0 wins on Saturday, the Peninsula College men’s and women’s soccer teams both had a rougher time against the Highline Thunderbirds during the second day of competition at the NWAC Friendlies at Lane Community College on Sunday.

The Pirate men (1-0-1) managed to salvage a tie in a 3-3 draw with Highline, rallying back from a 3-0 halftime deficit.

Defender Demar Stewart started the Peninsula rally with an unassisted goal in the 49th minute.

Kevin Medina earned an assist on Alex Ramos’ score in the 66th minute.

Jason Ramos added the equalizer five minutes late for Peninsula.

Sergio Uribe made five saves in goal for the Pirates.

The Peninsula men will visit Spokane on Monday, Sept. 5.

Highline 2, Peninsula 1

The Pirate women were unable to exact revenge in a loss to the T-Birds.

Highline ended Peninsula’s season in the NWAC semifinals last November.

In Sunday’s game, the T-Birds took a 2-0 lead into halftime after goals in the 30th and 44th minutes.

Bri Jack-Vallente scored in the 63rd minute for the Pirates (1-1-0).

Highline goalkeeper Rachel Thompson made 15 saves.

The Pirates travel to Spokane for a match with the defending NWAC champions Monday, Sept. 5.
