COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula men and women both win in shutouts

EVERETT — The Peninsula men and women’s soccer teams each won road games at Everett College by shutouts late last week.

The men won Thursday’s match against the Trojans 3-0 and the women won 6-0.

The men got a goal in the 36th minute from Nico Hernandez, with an assist to Christopher Domingues.

The game remained 1-0 until the 60th minute, with Keigo Takai scored with an assist to Kyota Hiate. Yutatsu Taira complete the scoring in the 85th minute with the assist going to Kai Biegler.

Peninsula finished with 16 shots to Everett’s two. Ian Dalton made two saves in goal to collect the shutout for the Pirates.

With the win, the men (5-1-0), remain in first place in the North Region. The Pirates next host Edmonds (0-4-0) at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Wally Sigmar Field.

Women’s game

The women’s game was scoreless for the first 21 minutes when the Pirates scored a pair of goals within a minute to seize control. Cecelia Jenkins scored unassisted in the 21st minute and Grace Johnson of Chimacum, added a goal a minute later, assisted by Caneel Corpuz.

Carissa Miller scored in the 42nd minute (assisted by Cerese McMillan) to finish the first half.

In the second half, Alysia Alvarado scored two unassisted goals for the Pirates in the 57th and 65th minutes. Johnson completed the scoring with her second goal, this one unassisted, in the 73rd minute.

Peninsula dominated with 22 shots, including 13 on goal, to Everett’s zero. The Pirates also had 12 corner kicks.

The Pirates women (5-0-0) next play at Skagit Valley (2-2-2) on Thursday.
