BELLEVUE — The Peninsula College men’s and women’s teams have not been able to get past first-place Bellevue this season, as they had a pair of close losses to the Bulldogs on Monday.
The men lost 68-62 while the women lost 75-71. How big of a thorn has Bellevue been? The men’s and women’s teams are a combined 0-7 against the Bulldogs, while they are 17-7 against everyone else in the North Region.
In the men’s game, the Pirates shot just 37.7 percent but still came within two possessions of knocking off 9-3 Bellevue.
The Pirates also had balanced scoring with six players scoring seven or more points. Isaiah Sampson led the Pirates with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Garcia and Mikey Medlock each had nine points as this duo shot a combined 5-for-5 from 3-point range. Ty Artis had eight points to go along with eight rebounds, and Jaylin Reed and Vince McFarland each had seven points.
Peninsula was hurt by 23 turnovers to Bellevue’s 12.
The Peninsula men has had three close losses to the Bulldogs — 75-67, 75-71 and 68-62 — this season.

Women’s game
In the women’s game, the Pirates’ Hope Glasser led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds. Tasiah Little had 16 points and three steals, while Tayvia Cabatbat had 14 points and six rebounds.
Like the men, the women had three close losses to the 12-4 Bulldogs — 60-55 in overtime, 51-50 and 75-71. Bellevue won another early-season game 67-51 over the Pirates.
Peninsula wraps up its season with home games Wednesday. The women (8-7) play Whatcom (8-4) at 4 p.m., looking to finish their season with a winning record while the men (9-7) are already assured of a winning season, but get one final crack at Bellevue at 6 p.m.
