Women improve to 6-0 in North Region

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team made some big shots and free throws down the stretch to hold off Everett in a close, hard-fought 73-68 victory Saturday.

The Peninsula women also dominated Everett, crushing the Trojans 76-39.

In the men’s game, there were 21 lead changes and nine ties. Everett held an eight-point lead early in the second half but the Pirates went on an 11-2 run to get right back in the game with 13 minutes left. From that point on, neither team had more than a three-point lead until the final minute of the game.

The big shot for the Pirates came from Akeem Sulaiman, who hit a jumper with 1:34 left to give Peninsula a 70-67 lead. Antonio Odum also made two free throws with 34 seconds left to ice the game as the Pirates’ defense forced Everett to miss its last seven shots over the final 2:39 of the game.
