ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Eli Allen, Quilcene baseball

Eli Allen has been a huge part of the Quilcene baseball team’s 7-0 start and No. 2 Ratings Percentage Index ranking among 1B schools.

Allen began the season in spectacular fashion, pitching 6⅓ innings of no-hit ball against Crosspoint and striking out 19 batters. For that accomplishment, he was named a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association athlete of the week.

Allen pitched his second no-hitter of the year Friday, going five innings in a 24-0 win over Muckleshoot and striking out 15 batters. That’s two no-hitters and two games in which every single out he recorded was a strikeout.

Allen has 49 strikeouts in 21 innings this season, forming a deadly one-two punch with teammate Oliver Hopkins, who also has some impressive pitching numbers. He also carries a 3.98 grade point average and is a captain of the team.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
