Derek Bowechop took matters into his own hands on Friday to help the Roughriders football team win 25-20 over the North Mason Bulldogs.

North Mason was attempting to come back on the Riders, but twice, Bowechop stifled the Bulldogs. First, he picked off a pass at the 25-yard line, ran to the opposite sideline and outraced the entire North Mason offense for a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Then late in the game with the Riders holding on to a one-touchdown lead, Bowechop picked off another pass at the 30-yard line and weaved his way through all 11 North Mason players for his second touchdown of the game, all but icing the contest for the Riders.

Nolan Hughes also had a fumble recovery and 35-yard runback for a touchdown for the Riders, who scored all their touchdowns on defense.

Bowechop, a tall linebacker (6-foot-3) for the Riders, has been a defensive force all season for Port Angeles, usually leading his team in tackles after each game.
