ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Blake Sohlberg, Port Angeles football

It was widely known coming in to this season that Port Angeles Roughriders football player Blake Sohlberg was one of the top wide receivers in the Olympic League, but no one could have predicted a game that he had Friday night.

Sohlberg got wide open time and again for quarterback Parker Nickerson and ended up with 10 catches for a staggering 234 yards. He also scored four touchdowns, all in the first half, on catches of 55, 26, 24 and 1 yards, as the Riders crushed Olympic 48-26 for the first Port Angeles win over the Trojans since 2011.

Sohlberg also kicks the extra points for the Riders, so he actually scored all 28 of the team’s points in the first half. He finished the game with 30 points. On top of all that, he also had an interception and 25-yard return.

Sohlberg and his Roughriders teammates have a huge challenge again, facing a 5-0 Bremerton team on the road Friday night.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
