ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Andrew Brown, Sequim track and field

Sequim’s Andrew Brown was part of a highly successful Olympic League track and field championship meet for Sequim High School as both the Wolves’ boys and girls teams finished fourth and collected seven first-place finishes.

Brown is the Olympic League champion in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a personal-best time of 15.97 seconds. That’s his fifth first-place finish in the 110 hurdles this season.

Brown followed that up with a personal-best in the high jump of 6 feet, ¾ inches to win a second league championship. That’s his fourth first-place medal in the high jump this year.

For good measure, Brown added a personal-best time of 41.53 seconds in the 300 hurdles, good for second place at the league championships. Brown’s 300 hurdle time and high jump are within the top 10 in the state and his 110 hurdle time is just outside the top 10.

Brown and several of his track teammates will move on to the district meet that begins May 17.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
