AREA SPORTS: Mud drags and tough trucks in Port Townsend Saturday and Sunday

Mud drag races set at Jefferson Co. Fairgrounds

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jeff Co 4×4 Club will present its spring mud drags and tough trucks racing weekend with a new short-course time trial at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St., on Saturday and Sunday.

Gates will open at 8 a.m. each day, and racing will begin at 11 a.m.

Mud drags, set Saturday, will have classes for 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder vehicles, plus an open class, kids’ quads and lap sitters.

Entry fees are $40 per class. Kids race for free.

Tough trucks with classes for tires 40 inches and above and 39 and below will run Sunday. Entry is $40.

The short-course time trial is open to any four-wheeled vehicle that passes technical inspection and is $40 per entry.

Concessions will be available from Port Townsend Little League.

Spectators are $10 at the gate, $20 for pit passes, and kids 12 and younger get in for free.

Camping is available for $25.

Cedars’ ladies

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s 18-hole Golf Group met under sunny spring skies for a game of Four and Five on Tuesday.

Sixteen women showed up to play.

First Flight was won by Kathleen McCarthy, with Lisa Chon second and Marine Hirschfeld and Mimi Shin tied for third.

McCarthy also had the low putts in the round with 31, ahead of Linda Hash (32).

Lisa Ballantyne was tops in the Second Flight, with Judy Reno second and Peg Phillips and Lori Oakes tied for third.

Kathy Langston went low with 31 putts, while Reno had 33.

Birdies were recorded by McCarthy and Ballantyne on No. 17, Shin on No. 1 and Oakes chipped in for birdie on No. 7.

Lisa Chon had the low gross score with 83, with McCarthy just behind at 84.

Net scores under par were recorded by Chon, McCarthy, Oakes, Ballantyne, Reno and Langston.

BMX open house

PORT ANGELES — A beginners-only BMX open house for ages 3-17 will be hosted by Lincoln Park BMX, 1798 W. Lauridsen Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The public is welcome to tour the facility, test out the track and learn more about program offerings such as the upcoming BMX Racing League.

Equipment, including loaner bikes and helmets, will be provided.
