AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior wins behind three-hitter

SELAH — Wilder Junior won its opening game at a tournament in Selah, getting a three-hitter from Hunter Stratford and Carston Seibel in a 6-3 win over Anacortes.

Stratford started and went five innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs. He struck out six. Seibel went the final two innings, allowing a hit and an earned run. He struck out three.

Wilder Junior got two crucial runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ian Smithson had the big blow, an RBI triple. He then came in to score on a sacrifice bunt by Carson Waddell.

Waddell finished 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and an RBI. Braedyn Boulden was 1-for-2 with a sac fly RBI and Owen Leitz was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and two runs scored.

Wilder Jr. played two more games Friday after press deadline against FG Plakata 18U and the Yakima Valley Peppers 17U. It will play the Sunnyside Monarchs at 7 p.m. today and will play another game against an opponent to be determined in Selah on Sunday.

Wilder A and Wilder Senior also have busy weekends. Wilder A is hosting four games at Volunteer Park against the Maple Ridge, B.C., Royals at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. today and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Wilder Senior is playing in Mount Vernon. They played Crush Baseball Orange on Friday after press deadline. They play Mount Vernon at 8:50 a.m. today and then a team to be determined Sunday.
