Two Clallam County seats remain without candidates

PORT ANGELES — No one filed for two open positions in Clallam County on Wednesday.

A special three-day filing period began Wednesday for the District 3 seat on the Cape Flattery School Board and Position 2 seat on the Quillayute Park and Recreation District commission. Neither seat drew candidates for the Nov. 2 general election during the regular candidate filing period that ended May 21.

If any candidates file, the races will appear only on the general election ballot, with no primary election contest regardless of the number who seek the post. The candidate who receives the most votes in the general election will be declared the winner.

If no candidate files, the office will be deemed lapsed and will not appear on the general election ballot. The incumbent or person appointed will be up for election at the next election when such positions are voted upon.

Candidates can file online until 4 p.m. Friday via the Clallam County elections website at Candidates also can file in person from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the special filing period at the Auditor’s Office in the County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 1, in Port Angeles. They can file by paper, through the mail or drop them in the drive-up drop box at the courthouse.

Candidates who file during the special filing period cannot withdraw.
