Port Angeles City Council election forum set today

PORT ANGELES — Incumbent Port Angeles City Council member Navarra Carr and her two opponents in the Aug. 1 primary election, Mark Karjalainen and Nicholas Merrigan, will debate the issues at the Port Angeles Kiwanis Club meeting from noon to 1 p.m. today.

Open to the public, this election forum for City Council Position 6 (nonpartisan, 4-year term) will be held at Joshua’s Restaurant in east Port Angeles, off U.S. Highway 101 at 113 DelGuzzi Drive.

Carr, a law student at Seattle University, is seeking re-election. She has held the Position 6 seat since 2020.

Karjalainen is a Port Angeles firefighter/paramedic.

Merrigan is a project estimator/manager for Jamestown Excavating.

The top-two vote-getters for Position 6 in the primary election will advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

There is a $5 minimum charge by Joshua’s for those at the Kiwanis meeting who do not order lunch.
