Five file during extended Jefferson filing period, leaving some positions without candidates

PORT TOWNSEND — Five candidates filed for election for two open offices during the extended filing period for Jefferson County, which leaves 14 positions without a candidate.

All five candidates filed for positions in the Clallam-Jefferson Fire Protection District No. 1.

Britni Duncan and incumbent Chet Hunt both filed as candidates for commissioner, Position 2 on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Neris Biciunas and Anthony Romberg both filed as candidates for Position 3. John Witherspoon also filed for that position Wednesday.

The Position 5 seat went unfilled after the 2014 election.

Some candidates withdrew.

Dan Nelson withdrew from the race for Sequim School District Director District No. 2. Brian Kuh and Jon Krishbaum will be the candidates for that position.

Despite the extended filing period, there are still four director-at-large positions in the Queets/Clearwater School District, three commissioner positions in the Clearwater Fire District and director-at-large, Position 1 in Brinnon School District that have no candidates.

It also leaves all five commissioner positions for the Brinnon Park and Recreation District No.2 empty.

In 2014, two of the five positions were left vacant.
