PORT TOWNSEND — Government and business leaders are playing the same song to solidify support for bringing the Hood Canal Bridge graving yard to Port Townsend.
Port Executive Director Larry Crockett said Port leaders met Tuesday morning with city of Port Townsend representatives, Jefferson County staff, the Jefferson County Economic Development Council, Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce and Fred Hill Materials Inc. representatives — “just to make sure we’re all on the same sheet of music.”
All needed support of a graving yard project is lined up, said Crockett.
“That was the big thing,” he said.
Letters of support from the Port Ludlow Village Council, the county EDC, Jefferson County Public Utility District and the Teamsters union are expected to be received by today, he said.
Already, Jefferson County commissioners and a majority of Port Townsend City Council members have agreed to support the graving yard concept in writing.
Crockett said the Port was “still in writing and gathering and data mode” on Tuesday, putting together a proposal that will sell Port Townsend Bay to state Department of Transportation officials needing a graving yard site.
