West End: Surf Frolic begins today at First Beach

Surfers and sea kayakers are expected to push the envelope of the curl of waves pounding First Beach today, Saturday and Sunday.

Nearly 100 surfers and sea kayakers from Seattle, Tacoma, Port Angeles, Everett and Portland, Ore., are expected to participate in the annual Surf Frolic.

“We welcome anyone who want to try our beach — they can just watch if they want to,”‘ Quileute Tribal Executive Director Walter Jackson said Friday. “It’s exciting for the whole family.”

When the event wraps up Sunday, tribal cooks will put on a seafood dinner for surfers and sea kayakers at the LaPush community dining hall, he said.
