West End: Quillayute River station closure decision on hold

A Coast Guard decision on whether to close its Quillayute River station is on hold until an environmental assessment can be completed.

According to Petty Officer Robert LaNier, the Coast Guard is assessing possible environmental effects associated with closing the station. Once the assessment is complete, there will be a 30-day public comment period on its findings.

LaNier said the Coast Guard does not have an expected completion date for the assessment.

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. James Loy will decide the fate of the station after the hearings, he said.
