A section of state Highway 112 near the entrance to the Makah Reservation will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday for paving.
The section of road was washed out during flooding last winter, reducing it to a one-lane dirt road about 100 yards long with stop signs at each end.
The asphalt overlay will reduce the amount of maintenance work required at the site and accommodate summer tourism traffic, the state Department of Transportation said.
State transportation officials are working with the Federal Highway Administration and the Makah tribe to design a $600,000 to $700,000 permanent repair, scheduled for construction in late summer.
State transportation officials have said they will suspend work on the highway section during Makah Days in August.
