FORKS — The popularity of the free Forks Chamber of Commerce logging and mill tours has prompted officials to extend tour dates through Oct. 11.
Forks chamber officials estimate 900 visitors have taken free logging and mill tours this year.
The extension will allow more people to enjoy the tour, which brings the West End’s heritage to life, officials said.
The extension also allows the tours to be part of the Hickory Shirt/Heritage Days 2002 festivities celebrating West End culture and history.
The event runs from Friday through Oct. 12.
Tours offered each year
The Forks chamber hosts logging and mill tours each year from May to October.
The tours start at the Forks Visitors Center’s Timber Museum, 1421 S. Forks Ave.
Visitor Center Manager Ellen Matheny said the tours offer participants a first-hand view of active logging sites, a walk through a lumber mill and a close-up look at the sawing at a shake and single mill.
