A Puyallup man was listed in serious condition Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a tree fell and struck the car he was driving south of Forks.
Philip D. Ellson, 27, was driving a 1996 Ford Escort on U.S. Highway 101 about 30 miles south of Forks when the tree struck his car at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the Washington State Patrol reported. Ellson sustained skull fractures and other head injuries in the accident, a Harborview nursing supervisor reported Sunday.
“It sounds like he may have been trapped in the car for a time,”‘ said State Patrol Trooper Glen Tyrrell, adding that it was raining and windy at the time of the accident.
Ellson was transported to Forks Community Hospital where he was then airlifted to Harborview.
The vehicle was destroyed in the accident.
