CLALLAM BAY — Preliminary results from Tuesday’s all-mail election show the Cape Flattery School District’s four-year, $1.4 million maintenance and operations levy is passing.
At the end of ballot counting, 290 voters — 71.6 percent of those casting ballots — supported the levy.
Only 115 votes — 28.4 percent — opposed the levy, Clallam County elections officials said, noting 1,140 mail-in ballots were issued to voters.
“I am extremely excited for the children of our communities,” Superintendent Gene Laes said Tuesday night. “I am extremely proud of the residents in this community for showing their support of children and education.”
State law requires 60 percent voter approval for a maintenance and operations levy to pass.
Tuesday’s tally shows the levy had received 47 votes more than the minimum threshold.
But more ballots are expected to arrive in the mail in the coming days.
Additional ballot counts are scheduled for Feb. 8 and Feb. 12.
