Wellness forum: ‘I just called 9-1-1, now what?’

SEQUIM — Capt. Derrell Sharp of Clallam Fire District 3 will discuss the 9-1-1 system at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 10.

The WOW! Working on Wellness Forum will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Seating is limited.

Sharp will present information about the activation of the 9-1-1 emergency system, when to call 9-1-1 and what to do until help arrives.

Discussion topics

Topics to be discussed will include the signs and symptoms of heart attacks and strokes and how these medical emergencies are managed and treated in Clallam County Fire District 3, which covers the eastern part of Clallam County and a small portion of Jefferson County. Sharp will talk about why early activation is essential.

Other topics will include “do not resuscitate” orders, Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) forms, living wills and the fire district’s “vial of life.”

Sharp is a 25-year member of the district. He has been a paramedic for 20 years and is now the medical safety officer.
