PORT ANGELES — A winter solstice invocation and pre-2015 gathering is set for Sunday at Poser Yoga, 128 E. Front St., and everyone is welcome.
Admission is free to this event from 5 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. with Jennifer Miner Noble and Karlyn Langjahr, yoga instructors at Poser.
“We’re moving from the darkest period of the year to the light, and we’re also looking toward what kinds of things we want to invite into our life in the new year,” Langjahr said, adding that the gathering will start with 20 minutes of chanting, with Sanskrit cards provided so everybody can follow along.
Then Noble will play the harmonium, an ancient instrument, to bring the group into a gentle kundalini yoga session.
Kundalini is a yoga style that tends to be strenuous, Langjahr said, but “we’re going to make it more mellow: a soothing practice, for all levels.
“Then we’ll end with Jenn playing more of the harmonium, and kirtan: calling to the yogic energies that invite positivity and gratitude.”
Drums, tambourines and such are encouraged in this call-and-response session, while yoga mats and blankets are provided.
“We’ve broken it down into three parts,” Langjahr said, so if participants can only come for a little while, they are welcome to do that.
