PORT TOWNSEND — Art lovers have a chance today to visit the studio of stone sculptor Arliss Newcomb, where the creations of three artists await.
Admission is free and refreshments will be laid out today during Newcomb’s open studio at 11968 Airport Cutoff Road, aka state Highway 19.
Colorful flags will mark the entrance.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can browse among sculptures by Newcomb and by Ray Hammer, alongside Carol Heath Stabile’s framed art and playful jewelry.
Hammer is best known for his large garden pieces made from found items, in addition to his fabricated entry gates and stair bannisters.
Stabile will hang her pastels and her paper-bead jewelry at the studio, alongside her photographic series titled “Salish Family,” of creatures at the Aquarium of the Salish Sea in Sidney, B.C.
Newcomb, for her part, is opening her studio for the third year in a row; she enjoys talking with visitors about her nature-inspired and abstract stone works.
The artwork will be for sale, with only cash or checks accepted.
