PORT TOWNSEND — Author Jody Gentian Bower will explore “How Stories Provide Role Models for Women” when she addresses the Port Townsend American Association of University Women from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The meeting will be at the Elks Lodge at 555 Otto St.
Bower holds a doctorate in mythological studies and lectures about archetypal and mythological motifs in modern culture.
Bower is the author of Jane Eyre’s Sisters: How Women Live and Write the Heroine Story, which examines the motifs and characters of the “wandering heroine” story that has been told by women authors, as well as male authors, including Shakespeare, Dickens and Tolkien, for centuries.
Her presentation focuses on how stories provide role models beyond those available to women in real life.
