Crop circle talk slated
PORT ANGELES — Mark Schrader, presenter and crop circle tourist, will speak about his visits to England in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 7 tonight.
The event is free and open to the public.
Schrader has made five summertime visits to Wiltshire, England, to experience the crop circle phenomenon.
He will show aerial and ground photos of crop patterns, supplemented with photos taken from the Internet.

Seahawks kickoff rally
PORT ANGELES — The Sea Hawkers Booster Club will host a season kickoff rally at Asian Buffet, 1940 E. First St., Suite 160, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
Participants are invited to wear Seattle Seahawks gear and celebrate the opening game of the season with music, raffles and prizes.
Children are welcome. Coloring, costume contests and raffles are planned for them.
Church block party

The party will be at the church at 205 Black Diamond Road.
There will be a bouncy-house and giant slide for children.

Magic: The Gathering
PORT ANGELES — The third Clallam County Magic: The Gathering Championship will take place at Anime Kat, 114 W. First St., at noon Saturday.
Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game where players buy, sell and trade cards representing fictional spells, artifacts and creatures to build custom decks to combat other players.
Released originally in 1993, it has expanded to include an organized tournament system with different formats and a community of professional players.
The Clallam County championship is modern deck format with a $30 registration fee for players. Spectators have free admission.

SEQUIM — A screening of “Koch Brothers Exposed: 2014 Edition” will be shown at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 6 to 8 tonight.

The showing is sponsored by WAmend, a statewide coalition seeking to put Initiative 1329 on the November ballot.
I-1329 would ask state residents to put the state on record as calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to reduce the influence of money on elections and government policy.

The show will be at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
General admission is $5 per adult, $7 for the family rate. Children younger than 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
The association is a nonprofit organization that offers a location to sell, buy and trade guns and related items.
Guards will be on duty 24 hours a day from setup to take-down.

Music, dance of Tibet
PORT TOWNSEND — Sacred Music and Dance of Tibet by Tibetan performing artist Tsering Lodoe is planned at the Rosewind Common House, 3131 Haines St., from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
A donation of $10 to $15 is suggested; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Lodoe was born to a refugee family in India and studied at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Dharamsala, India, which was established under the 14th Dalai Lama’s guidance.
Lodoe continued his affiliation with the institute for more than 23 years, earning advanced degrees in all aspects of traditional Tibetan music and performing arts.
He was the lead singer on the soundtrack in the film “Himalaya” and can be heard on the soundtracks of “Seven Years in Tibet.”

Lillian Carter play
PORT TOWNSEND –– Tonight will be last night of the one-woman show “Lillian Carter, the Lionmaker” at the Key City Playhouse at 7:30 p.m.
Sequim actress Carol Swarbrick portrays President Jimmy Carter’s mother, Lillian Carter.
The play opened Wednesday at the playhouse at 419 Washington St.

The show, directed by James Rocco, details how Lillian Carter’s life as a nurse and mother of four instilled qualities that would help push progress in civil rights and women’s equality.

Sail on Adventuress
PORT TOWNSEND — The historic schooner Adventuress will take passengers on a leisurely tour of sights around Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday.
If winds are too high to venture into the island, passengers will tour Port Townsend Bay.
The special sail on the 101-year-old historic vessel, which is based in Port Townsend and operated by the nonprofit Sound Experience, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cruises will leave from the dock at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.
Cruises are $80 per person or $75 for members of the marine science center, Burke Museum, Audubon Society or Washington Ornithological Society.
Naturalists from the Port Townsend Marine Science Center who are familiar with area bird and marine life will provide commentary on the sights.
All proceeds will benefit the marine science center’s educational programs.

Chimacum Woods is 6 acres of woodland rhododendron garden and propagation areas.
All are welcome.
Visitors can wander or take guided tours through the garden.
Among the attractions are big-leaf rhodies more than 40 years old.
The plants, whose ancestors come from all over the world, are grown from seed on the Olympic Peninsula — just a few miles southwest of the Hood Canal Bridge.
