PORT ANGELES — Fresh Cider is the Seattle band and Woody Lane the Oregon-based caller coming to this Saturday night’s contra dance, an event open to all ages at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road.
Singles, couples and families are welcome and no experience is necessary, since a beginners’ workshop starts at 7:30 p.m. and covers the basic steps of contra, a folk dance popular all over North America.
Admission is by donation, with $8 suggested for adults and $4 for youth age 12 to 18. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, though.
Lane, who is making his first trip to call a Port Angeles dance, is known for not only his calling but also for accompanying the band with his foot percussion, aka clogging. A dancer and caller who’s worked all over the country for the past 25 years, Lane is also a biologist who lives in Roseburg, Ore.
