WEEKEND: Port Townsend’s Rose Theatre to host film, talk on Cassavetes on Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — A tribute to the late filmmaking pioneer John Cassavetes, with a screening of his 1971 comedy “Minnie and Moskowitz” and a discussion hosted by two of his colleagues, is set for noon Sunday at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St.

Tickets are $10 at www.RoseTheatre.com, while the theater can be reached at 360-385-1039.

Cassavetes was an actor, starring in 1967’s “The Dirty Dozen,” 1968’s “Rosemary’s Baby” and the television series “Combat!” and “Columbo,” but it was his screenwriting and directing that established his lasting reputation, said Rose Theatre owner Rocky Friedman.

Cinematographer Mike Ferris and music supervisor and editor Bo Harwood worked on several pictures with Cassavetes and are intent on keeping alive the memory of their friend. The two will come to the Rose for Sunday’s screening and conversation about Cassavetes, whose movies also include “Husbands” in 1970 and “A Woman Under the Influence” from 1974.
