WEEKEND: Next-to-last Olympic Music Festival to feature cellist, ‘soundscapes’

QUILCENE — The second-to-last Olympic Music Festival concerts of the summer bring the music of Chopin, Dvorak, Martinu and Fauré, played by internationally known performers, to Quilcene this Saturday and Sunday.

“Czech and French Soundscapes” is the theme of these Concerts in the Barn, with cellist Patrick Jee, violinists Jessica Lee and Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, violist Alan Iglitzin and pianist Julie Elizalde.

Two days of music

The latter two men are also artistic directors of the Olympic Music Festival.

The concerts begin at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets range from $18 to $33 depending on whether listeners want to sit inside the Olympic Music Festival Farm’s restored dairy barn — on hay bales or church pews — or out on the grass where the music is broadcast.

55 acres

The festival farm, a 55-acre spread about 18 miles south of Port Townsend, opens at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday so visitors can stroll and picnic, then the barn doors open at 1 p.m.

For information about the festival concerts, which wrap up for the season next Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, with a program of Bach, Brahms and Beethoven, visit www.OlympicMusicFestival.org or phone 360-732-4800.

Tickets can be reserved at these portals for barn seating only, while lawn seating is first-come, first-served at the farm gate.
