Bird photography, a contra dance and a gospel music concert are among the attractions planned on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

Genealogists meet

CHIMACUM — The next meeting of the Jefferson County Genealogical Society will be on “Library School for Genealogists” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Tri-Area Community Center.

The center is located at 10 West Valley Road.

Sara Scribner, a certified genealogist, will share tips and research opportunities available free from public libraries JSTOR, LibGuides and Ask-A-Librarian.

Daughters meet

CHIMACUM — The Daughters of Norway, Thea Foss No. 45, will meet at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, at 1 p.m. Sunday.

They will host a regular meeting and presentation of “The Norwegian Royal Family: Presented in a Setting of Norwegian & Regional Nordic History” with Jean Kaldahl.

Membership is open to women of Nordic ancestry, and the public is welcome.

AAUW auction

PORT TOWNSEND — AAUW Port Townsend will host its annual silent auction at the Elks Lodge from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The auction will feature an array of new or gently used items and special experiences up for bid at the lodge at 555 Otto St.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Auction proceeds will go directly toward AAUW educational projects and scholarships.

Local singer Kevin Mason will emcee the event and provide musical entertainment.

This year, themed tables will display hand-crafted jewelry, artwork, linens, housewares, baskets, purses, games, books, CDs/DVDs and other items.

Experiences up for bid include an orchid greenhouse tour, a summer dinner, high tea for six, a two-hour summer sail and lunch for four, two tickets to the Wearable Art Show, two tickets to Key City Public Theatre, massages, facials, help with weeding, genealogy sessions and more.

AAUW will accept cash or checks only for the auction.

Conversation Cafe

PORT TOWNSEND — “Pluto” will be the topic for Conversation Cafe today.

Conversation Cafe meets at 11:45 a.m. every Friday at Alchemy Restaurant at Taylor and Washington streets.

Buying food is not required.

The gatherings conclude before 1:30 p.m., and all are welcome.

Bird photography

PORT TOWNSEND — Admiralty Audubon will host a bird photography session at Kah Tai Lagoon at 9 a.m. today.

Attendees will meet at the parking lot at Kah Tai and practice photographing whatever appears until around 11 a.m.

Anyone with a camera or who is thinking of buying a camera is invited.

Members will discuss and practice all aspects of bird photography, with a special emphasis on camera settings, light, behavior observations and more.

Bring waterproof boots or shoes.

PORT TOWNSEND — Mountain View Pool will hold its Friday Discount Night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

There will be no lap lanes, and children younger than 8 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Discovery dance

PORT TOWNSEND — Discovery Dance will host The Delta Rays at 8 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge.

The dance will be preceded by an American bandstand swing dance lesson at 7 p.m. taught by Janice Eklund.

No partner or experience is necessary. Admission is $10 at the lodge, 555 Otto St.

The Delta Rays include Peter Evasick on fiddle and guitar, George Radebaugh on piano and accordion, Peter Bliven on drums and Todd Fischer on bass.

Discovery Dance is a nonprofit organization on a mission to promote partner dance on the Olympic Peninsula.

PORT TOWNSEND — Dr. Stephen A. Bezruchka will be the featured speaker of the Social Justice Council at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 7 p.m. Saturday.

He is a senior lecturer in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington with awards for both teaching and his work in population health.

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Climate Action and the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center will present the film “Elemental” at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The movie will be shown at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 W. First St.

“Elemental” is a 2012 award-winning film that tells the story of three individuals united by their deep connection with nature and driven to confront some of the most pressing ecological challenges of our time.

Spring show

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers will present their 13th annual spring show in the Port Angeles High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The group will be joined by the Americana worship band David and the Psalms, Little Brass Band and the Crab Fest Revival Choir, which combines singers from Clallam County high schools, college and other adults.

Karen Coles will signing for the hearing-impaired, and Penny Hall will accompany on piano.

Reserved tickets for adults are $10 to $15 or $8 for students.
