PORT TOWNSEND — Dan Nanamkin — who served as a water protector at Standing Rock, N.D. — will speak at the Rosewood Common House from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The Rosewood Common House is at 3131 Haines St., Port Townsend.
Donations of $20 are suggested, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Organizers say that Nanamkin — a drummer and singer and member of the Chief Joseph Band of Wallowa, Nez Pierce and Colville Federated Tribes — “has a deep purposeful message to share at a time our world is facing many of its own crises.”
Michael Pilarski of the Fairy & Human Relations Congress — an annual event held in the Methow Valley — will join Nanamkin in a conversation about parallels between traditional indigenous cultures and Pilarski’s work with nature communication, organizers said.
Nanamkin — who was at Standing Rock during the fall of 2016 and the winter and spring of 2017 — has appeared on Vice, and CNN with Kamua Bel. He can be seen in the book “Faces From The Land,” and in such films as “United By Water,” “Awake,” “Akicita,” “Rumble” and “Black Snake Killaz.”
The gathering is to raise awareness and raise money for Nanamkin’s development of more educational presentations and his attendance of a book writing workshop.
