PORT ANGELES — Both lanes of westbound U.S. Highway 101 — Front Street — just east of Race Street will be closed today and possibly Wednesday after a water main beneath the road ruptured on Tuesday.
Although traffic is being detoured a square block around the break, Port Angeles officials were advising westbound motorists to turn off four blocks before at Ennis Street, turning north to Georgiana Street or south to Fifth Street.
Either Georgiana or Fifth will take motorists to Race Street, from which they can return to Front Street.
The road closure is expected to last until tonight and possibly through Wednesday, depending on how much the pavement beneath the road was damaged, Mike Puntenney, deputy public works director, said Monday night.
