PORT ANGELES – An eight-inch water main along Front Street broke at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, and flooded Front and Lincoln streets and Railroad Avenue.
City water department employees had shut off the water line along East Front Street between Peabody and Lincoln streets about an hour later.
Workers located the source of the break and went to work to repair the line.
Water service was expected to be restored by early morning hours today.
No damage or repair estimates were available.
City officials didn’t know on Tuesday how much water had rushed out of the broken pipe.
But City Manager Mike Madsen said the break did not cause a large enough impact on the city’s water supply to declare a water emergency.
No businesses appeared to suffer flood damage.
