PORT TOWNSEND — Neighbors of the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill at 100 Mill Road reported a consistent loud noise from the mill overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.
A Facebook post described it as sounding like rocket engines at full throttle.
“Last night, the mill experienced a steam venting issue which resulted in higher-than-usual noise levels,” said spokesperson Laurie Magan in an email on Wednesday afternoon.
Magan said there were no environmental or safety concerns associated with the problem and that crews were working on a solution to mitigate the issue.
“We apologize for any inconvenience experienced by Port Townsend and the surrounding communities, and are handling this issue as a top priority at this time,” Magan said in the email.
