Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner No. 2 took off from Paine Field in Everett at approximately 9:10 a.m. today, flew over the Olympic Peninsula in several passes (see its route here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE2 ), then landed at 11:11 a.m. at Boeing Field in Seattle.
Much of the flight was made over the Olympic Mountains at roughly 13,000 feet altitude.
Only two test pilots were aboard, with Randy Neville at the controls and Mike Carriker, who commanded last week’s first flight in 787 No. 1, this time riding in the right seat as co-pilot.
This plane was painted in the colors in honor of Boeing’s first 787 customer, All Nippon Airways of Japan. However, this jet will not be delivered to the airline.
According to Boeing, the first three of the six flight test airplanes are considered too heavy and have been modified and remodified too much to be sold to an airline. They will be used only for test flights.
