Update: Bicyclist killed in wreck from Quilcene

DISCOVERY BAY — A 51-year-old Quilcene man was killed today when his bicycle collided with a red Ford mustang on U.S. Highway 101.

He was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he had been taken. His identity was being withheld until troopers can contact his out-of-state family.

The collision occurred on Highway 101 near Leland Valley Road at about 10:30 a.m., State Patrol Sgt. Brett Yacklin said.

A State Patrol report said both the car and bicycle were heading southbound on U.S. 101 at Milepost 286 when the bicycle veered into the path of the Mustang, driven by Mark F. Owens, 47, also of Quilcene.

Owens, who was uninjured, was cited for driving with a suspended license. Neither drugs nor alcohol was involved, troopers said.
