FORKS — Using photos, letters and documents from the past, Glynda Peterson Schaad, Peninsula College English instructor, will tell Wednesday of “one of the unsung heroes of the North Olympic Peninsula”: Wynona Whitcomb Ross.
The free presentation will be at 6 p.m. at the Forks branch of Peninsula College at 481 S. Forks Ave.
Born in 1905, Ross was a direct descendent of the House of Ste-tee-thlum.
Raised in the household of her grandmother, Martha Merchant Maybury, and mentored by James Egbert through a strict academic regiment, she grew up with an equal appreciation for her Jamestown S’Klallam roots and the literary foundations of Western Civilization, according to a news release form Peninsula College.
“Wynona represents a true Renaissance woman: accomplished, well-read, well-traveled and devoted to the service of her community,” the news release said.
