Two to vie for medical center board post

PORT ANGELES — Cindy Witham will challenge Dr. Jorgen Quistgaard for a seat on the Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners.

Quistgaard is the incumbent.

Witham is the wife of Dr. Robert Witham, whose dispute with commissioners over office space in its Sequim Cancer Center spilled into the news a year ago.

Robert Witham, an oncologist, had not been given office space in plans for a cancer center expansion but eventually received space in a new planned Ancillary Services Building.

Bids on both Sequim facilities exceeded medical center commissioners” ceiling when they were opened last week. They must be rejected and the project opened to new bidding on Aug. 3.

Other Clallam County candidates who filed Wednesday to run in the November election included incumbent Port Angeles School District directors Cindy Kelly and Lynn Geren in Positions 2 and 3.

Sandra Criss of Port Angeles will run for the Crescent School District Board in Position 2.

Beverly Horan and incumbent Walter Johnson, both of Sequim, filed for Sequim School District Board, Districts 1 and 5, respectively.

David Burt of Forks will run for Fire Protection District 1 commissioner, Position 3, and Ben Pacheco of Port Angeles filed for Fire Protection District 4 in Joyce.

Incumbent Forks Councilman Byron Monohon will run for re-election, as will incumbent Sequim City Councilman Paul McHugh.
