Truck fire blocks both directions of Highway 101 north of Quilcene

QUILCENE — A truck fire blocked U.S. Highway 101 just north of Quilcene for about an hour Tuesday.

The road was shut down at 3:56 p.m. at milepost 289 near Leland Valley Road West, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The incident involved a semi-truck and a flatbed trailer loaded with 10 250-gallon containers of roadway paint, State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said.

“It appears the vehicle had a brake fire, which was able to be contained and did not reach the containers,” Hodgson said.

The road was cleared just before 5 p.m.
