Tides of March benefit auction set for March 12 in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Tickets to see Maya Angelou in Seattle, a biplane flight and high tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria are among the auction items that guests can bid on at the Tides of March on Saturday, March 12.

The benefit for the Port Townsend Marine Science Center will begin at 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St., Port Townsend.

Those who preregister by Monday, March 7, will pay $35 for marine science center members, $40 for nonmembers.

Registration at the door will be $45 for both members and nonmembers.

“In its seventh year, the auction continues to be a wonderful, fun community event with unique, one-of-a-kind items to bid on,” said Meredith Lowry, auction chairwoman.

“Having earned a reputation for serving some of the best food at any of the auctions held around the area, this year features over 20 chefs donating appetizers for the famed ‘Chef’s Showcase.’”

One of the items to bid on includes tickets for two to see Angelou — the celebrated poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker and civil rights activist — at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on Monday, March 14, with loge balcony seating, access to the Paramount club with bartenders and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.

Among the other items included are a flight in a 1931 Student Prince biplane around the Quimper Peninsula, river rafting for two down the Elwha River and a weekend getaway to Victoria, with round-trip fare on the MV Coho and high tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel.

This year’s auction is sponsored by John L. Scott Real Estate.

To register, phone 360-385-5582, ext. 104, or visit www.ptmsc.org, click on “PTMSC Auction” on the home page, then download the registration form on the lower left side of the page.
