Tickets go on sale for Port Townsend-Seattle ferry runs during Hood Canal Bridge closure

PORT TOWNSEND — Tickets went on sale Tuesday for Aqua Express’ Port Townsend-Seattle weekend passenger ferry sailings, being offered during the Aug. 11-15 Hood Canal Bridge construction closure.

While the Port Townsend run has been secured, Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce General Manager Tim Caldwell said the Port Ludlow Chamber of Commerce will meet Thursday to plan a second weekend run from Ludlow to Kingston.

Caldwell said he has spoken with representatives of Clipper Navigation Inc., parent company of Seattle-based Victoria Clipper, for a Port Ludlow to Kingston run.

That sailing can be planned now that the state Department of Transportation on Monday confirmed a second bridge work closure during the weekend of Aug. 21-25.

“The only thing now is we are still working to get a boat for Port Ludlow and Kingston,” Caldwell said Tuesday.

As tentatively planned, said Caldwell, Victoria Clipper could pick up passengers at Port Ludlow Marina and sail them to Aqua Express’ Kingston landing adjacent to the state ferry terminal. Aqua Express could then transport passengers on to Seattle.

As proposed, no more than four trips per day would run out of Port Ludlow, he said.

Arrangements for that run must still be negotiated with a sponsor to underwrite the cost of the boat, Caldwell said.

Three locations sell tickets

Meanwhile, tickets for the Aug. 11-15 Port Townsend-Seattle runs are on sale at three locations: Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, 2437 Sims Way; Quimper Sound Music & Media, 901 Water St.; and online at www.ptguide.com.

Ticket prices are $15 roundtrip, $7.50 one way. Cash or check will be accepted at the visitors center and Quimper Sound. Credit cards are accepted at ptguide.com.

Questions can be asked by calling the visitors center at 888-365-6978, or online at www.enjoypt.com.
