Three remain in Seattle hospital following pursuit, wreck near Port Townsend

SEATTLE — A woman who was riding in a car that crashed south of Port Townsend on Saturday was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center on Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Veronica Williams, 20, of Poulsbo was in serious condition in the Seattle hospital’s intensive care unit, Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said.

Shawn P. Oliphant, 19, who was driving the 2007 BMW 335 that Williams was riding in, and passenger Justin Herrera, 21, of Poulsbo, were each listed in satisfactory condition.

Oliphant, of Suquamish, allegedly passed a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy at 103 mph on Center Road and fled from the pursuing lawman at speeds of about 130 mph Saturday night, the State Patrol said.

The car lost control and rolled several times near milepost 8 of state Highway 104, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.

Authorities seized 3 ounces of cocaine found in a backpack in the woods in the area, Winger said.

Oliphant is facing possible charges of eluding, reckless driving, vehicular assault and other crimes, Winger told the Peninsula Daily News on Sunday.
