WESTPORT — The tall ship Lady Washington ran aground Thursday night at the entrance to the Westport Marina in Grays Harbor County.

KXRO of Aberdeen reported that it was refloated and is sailing to Port Angeles today for a hull inspection.

[PDN maritime columnist David G. Sellars reports that it is due for a short haul-out at Platypus Marine Inc., the ship-repair facility at Marine Drive and Cedar Street, on Saturday morning. A full report will appear in his Sunday column, On the Waterfront.]

If the tall ship passes inspection it’s scheduled to leave Sunday for Half Moon Bay, Calif.

The 112-foot sailing ship is a full-scale reproduction of the first American vessel to make landfall on the west coast of North America in 1788.

The Lady Washington and another tall ship, the Hawaiian Chieftain, are operated by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority for exhibitions and educational trips and tours.
