PORT TOWNSEND — A sport utility vehicle backed through a fence down a small hillside onto Port Townsend’s Memorial Field, rolled once and came to rest on its tires on Saturday.
Yueli Zhang, 45, of Port Townsend, a passenger in the 2003 Nissan Xterra, complained of back pain and was taken by ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare, said Officer Luke Bogues, Port Townsend Police Department spokesman,.
Zhang’s condition was not immediately available Saturday.
The driver, Li Ding Salopek, 46, of Port Ludlow, was unhurt, Bogues said.
Police were told at 10:13 a.m. Saturday morning that a 2003 Nissan Xterra SUV had backed through a fence along the east side of Memorial Field near Monroe and Jefferson streets, Bogues said.
The SUV had rolled on to its passenger side and come to rest upright, Bogues said, damaging a wooden staircase in the process.
Bogues attributed the cause of the wreck to “the driver’s operation of the vehicle.”
“No citation was issued, but a report has been forwarded to the [state] Department of Licensing recommending driver re-evaluation,” Bogues said.
