PORT ANGELES —“Sustainability Still Matters” is the topic of Peninsula College’s free Studium Generale at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
It will be presented by Jay Antle, professor at Johnson County Community College in Overland, Kansas, and executive director of the college’s Sustainability Center.

As a student at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, Antle took a field course in Yellowstone National Park that led him to become deeply interested in environmental issues.
He completed his undergraduate education in history, then moved on to Arizona State University for his master’s degree, and then to the University of Kansas for his doctorate in American Environmental History.
While in graduate school, he participated in an exchange program with Johnson County Community College (JCCC), where he was offered a professorship.
His responsibilities at the college have grown to include heading up the sustainability program. He is a four-time winner of the JCCC Distinguished Service Award.
Antle currently lives in Lawrence, Kansas, and is an avid hiker and storm chaser.
