Suspected DUI wreck east of Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A 27-year-old Yakima man was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol for allegedly causing a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles.

The State Patrol said Matthew Mansfield, driving a 2001 Dodge Ram, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 1997 Ford Expedition driven by Dan Williams, 33, hometown unknown, near Milepost 252 in the Morse Creek S-curve early Friday morning.

Both vehicles struck a guardrail before coming to rest on the westbound side of the highway, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.

Neither driver was seriously hurt, Winger said.

Clallam County Fire District No. 2 fire and emergency medical service units responded at 2:05 a.m. Friday.

Fire units cleared the scene at about 3 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Dan Huff said.

Mansfield was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of DUI, Winger said.

He posted a $2,000 cash bond Friday, Clallam County District Court 1 Administrator Keith Wills said.
