PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man who police say stabbed another man on a stretch of the Waterfront Trail along Hollywood Beach is scheduled to be arraigned on an assault charge Friday.
Edward Paul Horner, 55, was charged last week with one count of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly stabbed John Harold Hann, 44, in the chest July 23.
Horner remained in the Clallam County jail Thursday on $30,000 bail.
Hann was taken to Olympic Medical Center for the wound July 23 and was treated and discharged, hospital spokeswoman Bobby Beeman said.
Police account
Port Angeles police gave this account of the incident that led to Horner’s arrest:
Guests at the Red Lion Hotel saw and heard Horner and Hann arguing on the stretch of Waterfront Trail that runs in front of the hotel at about 10 p.m.
At least one guest called 9-1-1 to report that a man had been stabbed, and upon arrival, police found Horner holding a knife and Hann’s shirt covered in blood.
Police told Horner to drop the knife, which he did, and Horner was placed into custody without incident.
Hann told police he was sitting with a woman friend along Hollywood Beach when Horner began to harass her.
Hann said he then told Horner to leave, which Horner refused to do, leading to the argument and Horner allegedly stabbing Hann in his upper left chest.
