Three communities and several churches will hold sunrise services Easter Sunday.
The tradition of sunrise services stem from Gospel stories of Jesus Christ’s disciples visiting his tomb early in the morning and learning he had risen from the dead.
Here’s a breakdown of this year’s community sunrise events in Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Quilcene:
* Port Angeles — The annual nondenominational Easter Sunday Sunrise Service will begin at 7 a.m. at Civic Field on Race Street at Second Street.
* Port Townsend — The community Resurrection Celebration begins at 8 a.m. on Union Wharf at the end of Taylor Street.
The service is sponsored by First Baptist Church, but is nondenominational.
* Quilcene — The Community Sunrise Service begins at 7 a.m. at Worthington’s Pond, across Columbia Street from Quilcene Presbyterian Church, 294433 U.S. Highway 101.
Quilcene Assembly of God Pastor Dave Wellman will present an Easter message and musicians from Quilcene Presbyterian Church will perform.
A potluck brunch follows at Quilcene Presbyterian Church, where more Easter services are set for 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
