Officials say the percentage of families living in poverty on the North Olympic Peninsula is alarming.
Nine communities here have a higher percentage of families living below the poverty threshhold than the state average of 7.3 percent.
Here are the percentage of families living in poverty in various communities analyzed in 2000 census figures:
* Blyn: 0 percent.
* Port Ludlow: 0 percent.
* Marrowstone Island: 0 percent.
* Carlsborg: 3.6 percent.
* Bell Hill: 5.3 percent.
* Port Townsend: 8.9 percent.
* Sequim: 9.8 percent.
* Brinnon: 9.9 percent.
* Port Angeles: 9.9 percent.
* Quilcene: 11.3 percent.
* Unincorporated Port Angeles: 11.8 percent.
* Port Hadlock/Irondale: 13.6 percent.
* Forks: 14.6 percent.
* Neah Bay: 26.3 percent.
Overall, 7.2 percent of families in Jefferson County and 8.9 percent of families in Clallam County are living below the poverty threshhold, according to census figures.
